The Onion Peeler

This book dives deep into inner life of a young counterculture wife and mother in the 1970’s. Ms. Baresova’s writing is rich in evocative descriptions and of a style that is intimately descriptive, sharing in a deeply personal way the thoughts, fears and emotions of the protagonist, Sasha. The story line is an interesting journey through a set of personal relationships that illustrate many of the ideals and pitfalls that came with the counterculture of those times. This book offers honest insight into the experience of the rebel youth of those times, or at least one version of that experience. Through Sasha’s inner thoughts, and a series of surreal dream sequences we are taken on a spiritual journey that introduces to us to many of the concepts, ideas and understandings that fueled that fueled the spiritual side of the exploration of new ideas that exploded in the late 60’s and 70’s. The story has plenty of dark moments, but I found the overall tone to be optimistic and positive
