About Write Your Way In with Deepam

Deepam leads workshops and retreats in the Amherst Writers and Artists’ (AWA) method of writing workshop facilitation.

The AWA philosophy is a simple one: every person is a writer, and every writer deserves a safe environment in which to experiment, learn, and develop craft.

“Whether your purpose for writing is artistic expression, communication with friends and family, the healing of the inner life, or achieving public recognition for your art —the foundation is the same: the claiming of yourself as an artist/writer and the strengthening of your writing voice through practice, study, and helpful response from other writers.” ~Pat Schneider, founder of the AWA Method, in “Writing Alone and With Others”

The AWA Bedrock Principles are:

  • Everyone has a strong, unique voice
  • Everyone is born with creative genius
  • Writing as an art form belongs to all people, regardless of economic class
    or educational level
  • The teaching of craft can be done without damage to a writer’s original voice
    or artistic self-esteem
  • A writer is someone who writes

Retreat Tastes

Thank you for the workshop it certainly propelled me into investing in writing more. Which was my hope. And I loved the long meditation into Labyrinth walk. I had an epiphany. I enjoyed the setting and that we could walk on the land, alone and in an exercise The overall rhythm felt good. Time to write, rest, think..... My overall experience was one of tastes. I got a taste of writing on whatever prompt is provided, of hearing and responding to others, of receiving feedback ( I wish it had been more specific sometimes, less polite). I had a taste of my potential. I had a taste of other people's inner worlds, their imaginations, vocabulary, concerns, temperament. Thank you for all these tastes and also for the care that you showed

Count me in for the next one

Thank you Deepam for a wonderful writing refuge! It was just the inspiration I needed to ignite a part of myself that has lain dormant for too long. I had no idea that I was going to be led to diving as deeply as I did on Saturday. I am very grateful for the experience.
