For the Love of Brian
Description
Brian Piccolo was a halfback for the Chicago Bears from 1965 to 1970 when at the age of 26 he passed from a rare form of testicular cancer. I was first made aware of Brian through the movie 'Brian's Song', made shortly after his passing. I was a child at the time, but that movie had a big impact on me. I cried. I cried a lot, as I believe most everyone does when they see that movie and hear the beautiful piece of music which composer Michel Legrand wrote to accompany the dramatization of Piccolo's courageous journey. Maybe it's because the anniversary of his passing is coming up in this next week that Brian decided to pay me a surprise visit this morning while I was doing my daily mediumship training. Honestly, I had not thought of this legendary sports figure for years, but there he was; the gentle soul I knew him to be, standing right in front of me. As is so often the way, there was a message that needed to be delivered. Brian directed me to the words within an awards ceremony speech that his teammate, Gale Sayers had given just prior to Brian's passing. They are as follows: "I love Brian Piccolo, and I’d like all of you to love him too. Tonight, when you hit your knees, please ask God to love him.”
And all day long I've been thinking about this visit and the poignant reminder I was given that in as much as we express our love to those who are close to us in our lives, it's also good to remember that souls who have passed are so happy to be told the same. They are completely aware and receptive to the love we send them on the other side of the veil. Keep them close with your love, for it is that love that keeps our eternal connection alive.
