Spiritual Cinema - Messages at the Movies

Description

Let's face it: they don't make 'em like they used to. That's the movies, I mean. Recently I met up with friend and movie producer, Stephen Simon (Somewhere In Time, What Dreams May Come). 'So, what do you think of Hollywood these days, Stephen?' I asked. 'Not much.' was his simple reply.  Stephen grew up, lived and worked in Los Angeles for many years until pulling up his tinseltown roots and high-tailing it to the softer, quieter land of Oregon. That's basically a move from holly wood to cedar wood, which probably smells a whole lot nicer too!  He assures me, however, that his career in movie production 'was/is sure a lot of fun...most of the time.'  When I get together with someone who loves the power and magic of cinema as much as I do, well, I'm in my element.  Meeting up with Stephen was a delight. We both have a fascination for the deeper spiritual messages that movies can convey. And so, we talked about how I could spread this idea to others.  Stay tuned....NEW workshop coming up on April 14th!  Stephen has already spread this message in his seminars and in his book 'The Force is With You; Mystical Movie Messages That Inspire Our Lives.' It's a fascinating read and I would highly recommend it. 'Movie night' around here has been pluralized since I've been hunting down a long and growing list of spiritual movie recommendations.  Now, don't get me wrong, I'm no goody-goody. Each to their own, but I know I'm not the only one who wants a movie to entertain rather than terrorize; inspire rather than demoralize. Anxiety, dread, foreboding, mayhem? The nightly news can offer us double helpings if we so choose.  Naw, just pass the popcorn and give me a replay of 'Close Encounters'!
